Went to Old Garden Beach in Rockport this Sunday with my dive buddy. Weather was absolutely fantastic. Lots of divers on the beach as well as many locals.

Don't have the exact stats because my computer/log book isn't in front of me but the first dive was about 48 minutes. After an hour or so surface interval to get some sun we did the 2nd dive which was slightly longer at around 52 minutes.

On both dives we did a surface swim out to about 700ft heading directly north. We went out with the intention of finding lobster but unfortunately almost everyone we found was way too small although I did get lucky with one keeper. Where are the lobsters? Am I in the wrong spot or is it too early?

I did end up getting a parking ticket. I pulled my car up to quickly drop my gear off and went over to talk to someone. Lost track of time, couldn't have been more than 5-10 minutes and noticed a Rockport cop writing me a ticket. I wasn't about to get angry over a 20 dollar ticket or whatever it cost so I just told him no problem i'll move my car. He was pretty nice about it and just told me he wished other people had the same attitude. I figure it's only a parking ticket and it's certainly not the last one I will ever get.

Other than that a great day, good weather and good visibility (i'd say 20ft or maybe 25ft in some spots though I am not good as measuring this). I just wish there were more legal lobsters.

Thanks for the report ! So still tough to find keepers ?? although I heard at my LDS the guy ad already taken 45... he must have been before you ;o)
I guess there are better places for lobstering and I will soon have to discover them and experience the excitement of catching a keeper for the first time !!! Probably not in OGB from your report ;o)

OGB hasn't been good for lobsters this year, too much kelp. If you are looking to score a nice meal try Lanes cove. I average 2 keepers per dive and that is just coming across them out in the open. I'm sure if you were 'hunting' you could do pretty good.

I'll definitely try hitting up Lanes Cove. I am going on a Cape Ann Divers afternoon charter this Saturday so hopefully I will do a bit better.

Old Garden Beach I thought was a great dive. Just not many keepers.

Very nice dive there Sunday. Hit 60 ft with 52 degree water temp. Also got 6 keepers.
We were out by that sailboat that was anchored off shore, but more to the right.
visibilty was 20+ feet.

6 keepers. Nice.. I guess I must have been in the wrong spot or not out too far.

I go out on my back really far, and then drop down especially on a calm day like Sunday. I probably shouldn't do it that way because more often than not I usually have to surface swim back because of the air situation. As long as it's calm it's relaxing.

We were in my boat just to the right of OGB got about a dozen between the 3 of us on one dive, We also went out to that break wall out there its was a way cool dive, if you see that can 1/2 way to the wall about 50 feet before it the bottom rises up to 23 feet from over 60, got a few bugs but was hoping to find fish but no luck,

# this was on Sunday, we did 4 dives

That wall is a really cool dive I have stumbled upon it only 3 times while diving at OGB.
once 2 years ago and recently 2x in a month. Now I have a better idea of where it is and try every weekend. I came up from the dive this weekend to see roughly where it is and was quite surprised how far out it was. As long as it is calm it's not a problem.
The lobster are definitely out there.

Hit 60 ft

That is some decent depth ! I'm desperately looking to find the right spot to get there ;o)
If weather permits I might try Cathedral Rocks this weekend...

I'm searching for these 100-130' and I won't get these unless I go on with charters... expensive :P

In the meantime I would do with the 60-70' at least :P
