Black vest--who made it? how old?

The CO2 inflator is different than the US WW11 surplus the US inflators were pattened after=and often used.

The Dump valve (?) on the upper left side of the inflator is also "interesting." Don't recall seeing one like it..

Thank you again for sharing your finds.

Nemrod was not as popular in the United States as other brands. I to refreshing and interesting to be allowed to view items that were never imported or if they were imported were not popular.

In your first picture of the two sets of doubles I find it interesting that the back set has an isolator valve installed on a pipe thread valve. This would place it a decade or longer before isolator valves were introduced in the US and installed on American made tanks.

On the second set it is interesting how close the tanks are to each other. It would ether make a very comfortable set or an extremely uncomfortable set of tanks. As soon as they are restored and begin diving them please publish your evaluation of their comfort.

And of course the typical Nemrod wire bands...made a lot of sense, inexpensive, lightweight yet very durable even after all these good years.


I also noted your picture of the fantastically restored set of tanks right before the mask.


Are you planning on attending the German HDS event this summer..just received some more information on the event from Franz. I would like to attend but not this year.

I'd like to add my own gratitude to you for posting pictures and information about some fascinating historical European dive gear.

As a British vintage snorkeller mainly interested in the history of basic gear, it was your dive mask that got my full attention, and more particularly the Portuguese company that made it, Simotal. I am fascinated by the way so many European countries, both East and West, had their own domestic diving equipment industries before the 1980s. I must confess that I wasn't aware of Portugal's role until now and I couldn't wait to Google "Simotal" to see what came up. I was pleasantly surprised to find that one online retailer was selling Simotal all-rubber full-foot fins, made the way they used to be when I began snorkelling over half a century ago:

Megasub - Artigos Náuticos, Lda.
They're only 12 euros a pair and come in five sizes from European 32 to 40. I had no idea that Portugal still manufactured all-rubber full-foot fins!

Another site featured a Simotal dive mask:

Priced at 26.30 euros, the design apparently dates from the 1970s. This web page points to the interesting fact that Simotal's successor company is Picasso, which specialises in spearfishing gear.
