I have an old Suunto Cobra that i got in a package deal, it had not been used since 2011 according to logs.

I tried it out last summer but it did not start by itself and din not register any depth.

I just put it in my box of spare parts and did nothing more, it have a nice compass and qd-hose I planed to move to my other cobra, so save for spares.

Last week i read here on the board about people that got them function by soaking them long time in water, vinegar and even bleache.

So, yesterday i put in in a mug with water and vinegar, after a while it turned on (wet contacts) and after a couple of hours it started to beep, so i went over and checked it out, it was on 400+ meters :)

I left it over night and in the morning it was back to the surface, i checked the log and it had been all over the place down to 1000+ meters. but it seem to function and i going to bring it on my next dive to check it out.

Considering it had been down deep and gone up fast without decostops it was bent, to the 48 hour lockout.

I rinsed it in fresh water and cleaned it of, then tock out the battery and put it back, and now it is out of lockout.

So if you have a old Suunto that lock you out for any reason, if you take out the battery it lets you back in. (of cource you have to be careful not to dive when you should not, but if it locks of no apparent reason, or if you know the reason and it is not getting you in danger, its up to you )

Now i put my other cobra in a mug of fresh water to soak and rinse, i think it is good to do regular long rinces of the DC to not get problems in the future.

There may have been enough dry mineral residue next to the pressure sensor that once wet it expanded thus causing the deep dive. Then the acetic acid took over and dissolved the mineral residue.

While some people have placed their computer in bleach, it is not recommend and does nothing but disinfects it.
