I also love diving. By profession I am a programmer, and only recently became a diver, but I hope that I have everything ahead!

Beaver Lake in NW Arkansas has some fair/decent diving. viz varies from "where's my hand" to 25+ depending on location, depth and time of year.

I have experienced this at home. One sign of getting older is when by the time your computer is close enough to your mask that you can see it in the murky water, your eyes cannot focus that close.
