All are welcome for a weekend of diving and camping fun!

    Octoberfest Megadive 2012
    October 26th, 27th and 28th 2012

Come for 1 day or the whole weekend.

All are welcome. This event is open to all dive levels, newbie OW, all the way to full cave certification. If you don't have a buddy, don't worry, there are a bunch of us and there's always someone ready for a dive! Diving is set at your own pace, when and where you want in between eating and sleeping. The only dive that is a scheduled dive will be the galaxy dive around dusk on Sat. evening. As it is a family event, there are plenty of non divers and kids too.

Ginnie Springs has a full service dive shop and a pretty nice little store.
They also rent canoes, kayaks and tubes for use on the river.
Check out their website below for further info, park maps and directions.
Florida Staycation vacation place for scuba diving & Florida ecotourism
Or give them a call at Ginnie Springs Outdoors 1-386-454-7188

When you get to Ginnie Springs, you'll need to check in the Main Office, tell them you are with the ScubaBoard group as we get a 10% discount. If you check in on Friday and won't be diving until Sat., go ahead and pay for your diving then and get your wrist bands. It can get really busy on Sat. and you don't want to waste your time waiting in line again. Sometimes we do a sunrise dive before the shop opens and you don't want to miss one of the best dives of the day!
We have the Turkey Roost area reserved. Most of us will be tent camping. Some though do stay in town at the motel, but you'll miss a lot of the fun...
There isn't electricity where we're camping, but the are several taps with running water and grills. There is electricity at the pavilion
and bathrooms w/showers a short walk away.
Don't forget to bring chairs for around the fire and
bug spray if the bugs like you.
No need to make reservations, but sign up on this thread and let us know how many are attending in your party and what you'll be bringing to pitch in for the group dinner and breakfast.
Once a week up until the event, I'll update the food list and who's attending.
Check for the latest list for ideas on what to bring and what's still needed.
So come join us for a weekend of Fun!

Here is a rundown of the weekend...

Friday- All meals will be on your own. Some will go out to dinner; some will cook at the campsite. It's up to you.
Campfire - a little smores, a little music, a little singing, a little drinking(BYOB) or not, keeping it mild in anticipation of the big day of diving on Sat.

Brekky - MegaOmlettes, group buffet style. Not to be missed...
    Lunch- On your own.
Dinner - Group buffet style somewhere around 5:00. Bring something to share..
Let's keep the grill items to hamburgers, hotdogs, brats and chicken breasts.
Galaxy Dive - Around dusk. Not to be missed...
Campfire -a lot of music, a lot of singing, a lot of drinking(BYOB) or not. Just lots of fun! Feel free to wear a costume, some do, some don't. Not to be missed...

    MegaOmlettes group style.

Okay here's the first group list ...

    Megadiver's Attending and Food List
Post that your attending, pick something to bring, and I'll add your name to the list at the end of the week. Hope this helps! :d

Cardzard and Roxanne - A cooler full of water, diet and non diet sodas, and juices for the kids for the group dinner. Then for brkft, 18ct eggs, precooked bacon, sausage and ham, and some asst veggies for the omlettes. And last but not least, Glow sticks for the galaxy dive.

For those who always ask what to bring. Here are some ideas...
Meat items for the grill (let's keep it to Hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, and chicken breast and buns) (We're trying to keep it simple so it doesn't take forever to cook for the group) (If you have something else you were thinking about and want to cook that yourself, that's great! Some have brought friers or smokers and added to the meat items that way.)
Eggs (We never seem to have enough.)
Items for the omlettes (additional meats, peppers, mushrooms, onions, salsa, wraps, cheese, etc.)
Items for Breakfast (Juices, fruit, etc.)
    Charcoal (self starting)
Condiments (cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, BBQ sauce etc.)
Aluminum Foil Serving Pans (to hold the cooked meat)
    Paper towels
    Qt. Freezer baggies
for the omelettes(Make sure they are the freezer kind or they will melt)
    Bottled water
Side dishes (casseroles, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, chips and dips/salsa, fruit salad, green salads w/dressing, veggie tray w/dip, etc.)
Deserts (Oh please don’t forget the deserts!)
Tiki torches and fuel (for around the fire)
Fire wood for the camp fire.

We also need volunteers to help out during for the weekend. THANKS!!!!
If we all pitch in and take a task, it makes for a fun weekend for everyone.

If someone needs ICE on the way in, there is a self-serve ICE machine when you leave High Springs to turn on the road to go to Ginnie.
In addition to Ginnie's Springs store and dive shop,
Air Fills: Cave Country Diving - Home in High Springs where Salvo used to be.
    (US Hwy 441)
There is a Winn-Dixie in High Springs , open 7 AM to 10 PM every day.
There is also a CVS Pharmacy right next to the Hardees.
Here's a link back to the weekend rundown for additional info.

If you have any questions, just ask. One of us will respond.

If I think of anything else , I will let you know.

Oh , Cave East is closed... (permanently)
Like Roxanne said , Cave Country dive shop is open in High Springs...

P.S. The rivers are dropping finally after T.S. Debby. Turkey Roost was underwater. I haven't been to Ginnie yet , but it's been open for a couple weeks now and things are fine!!!

YEA! We will be there on Friday to set up and will update what we are bringing a little later. We do have that old charcoal but it will need fluid. The rum tote is looking a little scarce and Moonie would be disappointed. If anyone wants to sacrifice some rum for the rum tote gods they will appreciate it. If not we will just have to have a new dance for newbies around the fire to please them.

Yes, come on up and join us. You'll have a blast and you already know a few of us.

Great! I'll add everyone on at the end of the week. And I'm sure we can round up some spirits for Moonie's rum tote, especially since it's the weekend before Halloween. :crafty:
