That's interesting, that is what my Navy Scuba instructors said about Octos and my Bouée Fenzy in 1970. Come to think of it, the same went for single tanks, back packs, single hose regulators, masks that werent round, and "civilian-pukes pretending to be real divers".
Is your Atomic dealer also a Zeagle dealer? You do need to get them serviced somewhere...I'm looking to buy a safe second. I have a Zeagle BC and an Atomic reg. I've narrowed it down to the Octo-Z and the SS1. Price difference is about $40.00.

Why does this matter? The SS1 unscrews and comes off the BC to take it in for servicing.
I used to use one and was pleased with it. I only moved away from it when I switched to a long hose setup when I started doing more demanding diving like ice diving. Even then, it was more of the limitations of the primary than the SS1 that motivated the change.
Many of my favorite regulator 1st stages only have two lp ports so the air 2 option is way better than the buddy breathing option of years past.
