What is a good size hose for an octo? Either 30" or 36"? I know my regulator is on a 30", since I've always just used an inflator integrated octo I'm not really sure if the octo should have about the same size hose or longer hose? Suggestions and experience info please? Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "air integrated" octo...

Got your edit, thank you.

For a standard octopus rig the hose should be 36 to 40 inches long. If your doing a Hog type rig or some other configuration then there are others who will soon chip in.

For a standard recreational configured octo, a 40" hose is good.

To try and decrypt a couple of the posts here, the length of your hose will depend on how you intend to deploy it.

A lot of recreational divers will keep their octopus secured with some sort of device, ready to be deployed to an out-of-air diver.

On the other hand, most technical divers, (and also more and more recreational divers) will keep their octopus on a piece of bungee cord around their neck. If their buddy needs air, they will donate the regulator from their own mouth, and switch to the octopus around their neck.

In the first situation, you'll want a longer octopus hose, as you suggested 30"-36", which ever you feel more comfortable with. And probably a shorter primary hose.

For the second situation, you'll want a longer primary hose (often 5' or 7'), and a short octopus hose (around 24")

As some others have suggested most recreational setups would use a 36" (or maybe 40") occy hose. However my preference is a 48" hose. I have used it to share air on a few occasions and I find that the extra length does make things a lot easier. For recreational divers who aren't entering caves or narow passages in wrecks longer hoses such as 7 ft are probably overkill. I also like to have a swivel on the occy hose so that the recipient can take the reg from virtually any angle. The added flexibility of a Miflex hose is also worth considering.
