Hi,

I have a Hollis DC1 212 Reg and I need an OCTO so I just wanted to know if it would be ok to purchase another 212 second stage as my octo and just use yellow hose wrap to cover the black LP hose ???

Does it make any difference that I'm not using the 321 octopus sold by Hollis???

Thanks Folks..

Yes, and who cares if it is yellow. I prefer to have matching regs.

You can use any good-quality 2nd stage as an octo... does not even need to be made by Hollis, and certainly does not need to be yellow

The main advantage to using an octo from the same company is it will usually be easier to get service, but it is not a strict mechanical requirement.

The octo should always be "tuned" to perform properly with the 1st stage, whether it is a Hollis octo, Scubapro, Aqualung, Apeks, Mares, etc.; you get the picture :D

Best wishes.

You are certainly on the right track to buy an octo that is just as good as your primary. Most folks just get something that fills the need. However, when do you need an octo? When something hits the fan. As such IMHO you want an octo that is every bit as good as your primary.

I use the same thought for tires. Most cars come with POS mini spare that you are lucky to be able to drive 45mph on if it is dry road. Well getting a flat in the middle of winter 100 miles from the nearest tire service station is not the time I want a mini spare.
