Quick question I just bought an used Sherwood SR1 octo witch is a better reg than my primary a Sherwood Magnum II is there any reason I should not run my new octo as a primary second stage

Usually octo's are not as easy to breath from as they are designed to not free flow as easily when they are sitting strapped to you.

It's a reg... if it breathes better, then use it. Free-flow stuff etc., is just a matter of tuning.

Ditto...use the best breathing regulator for your primary and the other for your alternate.

Feel free to use whatever you want as your primary.

As said above, just make sure the secondary is detuned slightly to prevent freeflows.

not true, it is only like that if they are tuned to do so or are of a different regulator design. It is true many manufacturers use a cheap design for the octo, however as specified in this case, the "octo" version of the second stage which is usually just a color change in the materials and sometimes detuned version of the primary. This can be remedied in 5 minutes by a good technician, usually for free if you are close with the shop and they don't suck.

as are mine, and my stage bottles, and my deco bottles lol... Everything except my O2 bottle where I'm using an old Dacor Pacer that I inherited from my dad, because why not?

From the SR2 octo page - assuming it's the same for the SR1.
The same extraordinary breathing characteristics as the SR2 Regulator. The SR2 Octo is outfitted with distinctive front cover, highly visible yellow hose, and still maintains the adjustments that the SR2 has.
