Hey guys..

First time diving off Cozumel in this season.

Any advice, any opinion, any predictions are appreciated…

Cheers!

1st time diving Cozumel or 1st time diving Cozumel this year?
My 1st time was 29 years ago. We were newbies divers. We dove with Dive Paradise and did not go back for years. Large crowded Slow boats, 50 min dives.

A few years later we read about Aldora in Undercurrent. It described a dive operator for dives. Fast boats, 6 person max (now 7), 120 ft3 tanks, extended dive times (we logged several 100+ minutes with them over ghe years) a true valet diving experience. We decided to try them and never looked back.

Your dive operations can truly make or break your experience. There are many great dive operators on Cozumel (Aldora, Dive with Alison, Salty Endeavors, Tres Pelicanos.... to name just a few).

That's the great thing about diving Cozumel. No matter what sort of experience you are looking for, there is very likely a dive op (or several of them) who can provide it.

Not sure if you are looking for advice on which reefs or which dive ops to use? If the latter, read this thread's first post and have a look at the spreadsheet attachment. We love blowing bubbles with Sharky's but would also use Dive with Martin and Tres Pelicanos without hesitation . Sharkys and DWM are very good choices if you need any gear as they loan everything except computers for free when you dive with them.

Actually it's the weather I'm quite concerned about. Only got a week of stay so I'm trying to find out if I can get the most out of it. Dive shop only confirmed Oct 29-30 so far will be fine. Not sure the rest of the week.

There are no tropical weather systems anywhere near Cozumel at the moment. Of course, that can change rapidly but we are past the peak time of year for that to be likely. Strong cold fronts that blow through here (Austin, TX) frequently reach Cozumel, but it is still a bit early in the season for that sort of thing to happen very often, and there is nothing like that in our 10 day forecast. Local weather on Cozumel is harder to predict for more than a few days in advance.

You can keep an eye on predicted wind speeds at Windguru.com
But as ggun said the predictions are only somewhat reliable a few days in advance.
Winds from the northern directions at 20 mph or more are trouble. It seems recently that winds from any direction at over 20 mph can be problematic for port closures.
The far more knowledgeable regular posters here can give better insight into this.
