I just received my new Oceanic Zeta today. I hooked it up and took a few breaths. Now, I read a few reviews from others and not all of them were good. Anyway, mine sounds like a harmonica just as I finish exhaling. Is this normal? Will it be any different when I get into the water? I would rather take it back now than wait until I get wet.

Thanks,
Mark

That sounds like its just the diaphragm.

Try it when its wet, if it still does it, bring it to an Oceanic service tech to take a look at it.

I dont think there is anything wrong with it.

Call me paranoid. After reading a few mediocre reviews, I am overcautious with this reg. However, once it was wet and underwater (bathtub) it went away. This is going to be my girlfriends reg who is soon to be certified, and I want everything to be perfect. As for now, I don't think there is anything wrong:)

Thanks,
Mark

Ohhhh

That reg. is expensive you must love her a lot!

My Jetstream did the same thing and it was just the diaphram.

You can tell people that your girlfriend's diaphram made a lot of noise when you first blew into it.

I HAVE had problem with it being really sensitive in the water free flowing is this normal with the reg, it seem when i have it in my mouth its fine but when i take it out and hold it a certain way it wants to free flow

that is the norm for that reg.

Divernet said it was a "whirlwind". They didn't particularly like the Zeta but they didn't like my Jetstream and I love it.

I wouldn't consider it a big deal. Where is your reg. usually? in your mouth and I bet it doesn't free flow there.

You might be able to have it detuned a little.

I read the review over on Divernet. If I remember correctly, their big complaint was that it gave you too much air. I like the Zeta even though it is for my girlfriend. I have an Apeks ATX 200 and I would have to flip a coin do decide which reg is better. The Zeta breaths so easy. I have to agree that the Zeta likes to freeflow, but Buff is right about keeping it in your mouth.

Just a little update on the Oceanic Zeta. This is a very compact, easy breathing reg that likes to freeflow. This reg is very sensitive. After all, the reg is supposed to be in your mouth. However, if you are in a spring or just plain snorkeling, you have to pay constant attention to make sure this reg doesn't freeflow. It is more of an annoyance than anything else. But, it will get on your nerves very quickly.

I adjusted the second on mine a 1/4 turn and it's much better. It was very sensitive and liked to freeflow set as it was out of the box. However, with the adjustment, it still delivers more air than I could ever need and doesn't suffer from shallow water free flows... I've got 2 of these, one DX4 and one CDX5. Great regs...

I read the reviews as well, and it seemed to me that a fair number of them simply dive the reg as is out of the box, with no adjustments or setup. I guess that's one way to do it, but it seems silly to give a good reg a bad review because it's not set up correctly. Seems to me that it would be a little more balanced to take 5 minutes and set up things to get more realistic results.
