I am looking for feeback on the "Oceanic Zeta CDX-5 Regulator". It appears to be a quality regulator that is going rather cheaply lately and I was wonderng what the reason was (malfunctions?, cancel product line? ..etc)
Thanks

I've only used the Zeta once (paired with a DX4) but found it to be a very nice reg.

I am just speculating, but the reason for the Zeta price drop may be due to the fact that Oceanic has a new very small second stage, the ZX (paired with FDX-10 first stage), coming out in December.

They are nice regs. I've never found any defects in them. The Zeta's are different than most regs in that they are a servo system rather than a poppet style and that takes a little getting used to for most people. The Zeta is a little harder to service than most because it is a servo and they are very small but they perform well and hold up well.

(I posted a similar question in another thread since I saw the zeta/cdx-5 for sale for only $250).

I called Oceanic and found out that it's being discontinued due to poor sales. Because it is a servo it takes a little longer to get used to it since the air delivery is different. I was also told that the reg needs to be used at least once a month, otherwise some parts in the 2nd stage may take the wrong seat.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Pablosells. Thats really good info. Did you just call the "help" desk?

I called Oceanic. They're located in the SF Bay area and I spoke to a very helpful person in tech support. His name is Ron.

Great reg, the shop that I help at carried them. They are discontinued.... if you buy one online I strongly suggest you buy at an authorized dealer, only for the following reason. You can take it to any local authorized dealer for service w/o having to pay an arm and a leg for repair, also you won't have to send it to the dealer you bought it at and wait weeks to months for it to be done. Be prepared to spend more than the $150 - $200 you're seeing online, you'll pay $450 - $500 but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Hope this helps.
