Oceanic VT4 Compass, etc

I was not even aware of the DSS mount until you mentioned it here. I asked DSS if it fits the VT4 and they "assume so" but have not actually seen it done yet. My question for you now that I know about their mount is, IF I get the VT4 and want to go with the DSS mount (And it does indeed fit in the VT3 mount) , do I ask for it without the band or is it easy enough to remove it after purchase?

From what I read it's not hard to remove:

I did that with my Suunto Vyper and recall that I had to remove the pins first. I don't have the VT4 so you may have to review that thread and perhaps ask someone from there.
