I have a VEO 180nx [console mounted] and find it quite satisfactory. I haven't had to change the battery yet, however. I spent about 90 min in the pool with it and the little laminated instruction card...it helped me quite a lot to understand what I was looking at.

I received my Veo 180 a day or so after my last post and my only complaint so far is exactly the same as ColoDale's. I don't like the battery compartment. I recently posted about what to look for when changing batteries on my Data Plus but found out that was an unnecessary post. On the Data Plus I just unscrewed the compartment with a quarter dropped in the new batteries and closed it back up. O-Ring was fine and everything was super easy. Batteries were even cheap. On the Veo 180 it's definitely not going to be that clean and simple.

I also didn't get any special tool since I bought it used... I'll have to see if I can get one from Oceanic, I guess.

My wife and I have Veo 250's and just bought a third. I am assuming the battery dept access is the same as for the Veo 180. If so, I have found battery changes to be a piece of cake. The specific wrench for removing the battery cover does make things easier, for sure.

I played with another divers VEO on a boat but don't remember if it was 180 or 250. Having already owned a Geo, I prefer the 4 buttons but its not easy with 7m gloves. He said it was good on a battery.

fj, stop into your LDS they've probably got a gagillion floating around...if not give me a PM and I'll send you one.

Do be careful when / if you change the batteries on them. They are pressure sealed from the factory and often when shops do a battery change so the cap is sometimes challenging to remove. Make sure to be gentle and not scratch the cap or the compartment housing. If a mark is made from a pick or screwdriver  your next dive may be your computer's last. Also be gentle when putting it back together and dont press down on the clear cover with the force of the gods. They can and do crack from being pressed to hard. Let the collar and tool lock things into place.

YEAH DIVING!!! GO VCU RAMS!!:D
