Esox, everything Kraken says is accurate. I've been using the DataMax Pro Plus1 for about 5 years and love it. Very reliable and easily read and understood UW. Very good support from Oceanic if you ever need it.

Esox,

the Pro Plus II is a very good and rugged dive computer. It comes from a work horse of a dive computer, the old Data Max Pro Plus. I know of a Pro Plus that is still crunching the numbers after 7 years of diving and hundreds of dives.

Affectionately referred to as "The Brick", the Pro Plus II is very easy to read and is simple in operation.

All of this, coupled with Oceanic's superb service group, makes it an excellent choice.

Guess you can tell I'm a bit biased on the side of the Pro Plus / II, can'y ya ???

"smaller" is the issue. My gage reader mask is a must! I cannot find a wrist computer with as large of a display as as my old Aeris has or I would have stayed hoseless also. Anyone that could direct me to a hoseless with a large display with graphs the info would be much welcome
Keep an eye out for the Uwatec Galileo Sol, which comes out in England in April and which will probably come out here in the next 3-6 months. Not helpful if you need something right now, I realize, but still. Quite a display!

OK, I think I have narrowed my search to this computer. Which should I buy, the Pro Plus II or the Datamax Pro Plus II? I really cannot see the difference, is one a newer model then the other? Anyone care to share good and/or bad about my choice?

i am in the same position as you. this will be my first computer and, due to the onset of middle age in my eyes (not the rest of my body, you understand), i have decided that the pro plus 2 is the beast for me.

next question is where to buy. i see loads on ebay at $450 - $500 but from unauthorized dealers. the authorized guys all show it at $750, the manufacturers minimum presumably.

now, normally, i would steer clear of the unathorized dealer but a $300 saving is a $300 saving.

advice please?

Joe

Hey Guys (and Gals),
I picked up a Pro Plus 2 about a month ago. I put thirteen dives on it, with no problems. I read thru the manual while watching my son at Karate practise one night. In less than thirty minutes, I had the thing figured out. It's pretty easy to use and I like it a lot.

I'm not that crazy about the oceanlog software and the upload cable connection. It works, but there are about five things that I think they need to change, then, I would really like it. I guess I'm spoiled with the software and docking station that my Citizen Auqaland uses....

Anyway, here's my question: The manual says the battery is good for about 50 hours. So, I bought a second battery (kit). However, during my last trip, the thirteen dives occurred over four straight days, and the computer never "shut off", and I still has plenty of battery life. So... what is the battery consumption really like?

The Uwatec Galileo Sol looks pretty cool as it should be for approx US$1,800. Lots of features and the compuss would be nice.

I use the ProPlusII. Like the large display and it's a tough unit.

I would never count on an electronic compass, but I suppose it's nice to have.

The poster in question was asking about a wristmount AI computer that had a big, easy to read display, and this is the best option I've seen by far that meets those criteria.

I want it for other reasons. :D

(But yes, the Pro Plus II is a nice comp also, if you want none-wireless AI and a brick. I nearly bought one myself last year, but opted for the SmartTec instead.)

I used a VTPro & transmitter for about a year. One less hose and wrist mount was very nice.

Traded it for the ProPlus. I choose a large display and durability over 1 less hose and wrist mount.

If I was buying a new one today it would be the VT3.
