Hello all I am new to diving, just got my AOWD certification in Cozumel Sept4 and have completed 17 dives so far and loving it.

I just bought a set of "used" regulators that are actually brand new. The guy said they were about 7 years old but never been used. From looking at them you can tell they have never been used but I am not sure what model they are. I tried looking them up on the net but haven't had any luck. It is a Delta first stage and a Gamma second stage. When I try to search I get Delta 2's, 3's,4's and so on but can't find my actual reg. I was wondering if there was a way to check via serial# or something else.

I also got a brand new never used(7 year old?) Zeagle Ranger BCD with the regs for $450 Canadian for the whole lot. Just wondering what I actually bought and if it was a good deal or not.

I'm sure if you do a GOOGLE search you'll find performance info/reviews of your reg.....I think diver.net and scubadiving.com have tested that reg years ago. Depending on how/where they were stored, soft bits (O-rings for example) might be dried out...probably won't hurt to do an 'annual service' on the reg......and inflate the BC and see how long it holds air (leak test) and make sure the inflator/deflator mechanisms work OK.

Just took the regs in for a service. It's an Oceanic DX4 first stage a delta second stage and a gamma octo. All older but brand new. They suggested I get it serviced even though unused as the "seals and diaphram" can still go even when unused. They recomend annual service no matter what, is this something everyone does or is it overkill and a way for the dive shops to make a bit of cash.

The DX4 is a very nice balanced diaphragm regulator and the Delta has also received many good reviews. If it is around 7 years old it is probably a Delta III.

Servicing them was a good idea. I would not dive with a set that is 7 years old was not serviced lately and looks brand new. You never know what it looks like inside. The o-rings may be bad or it may have startet corroding depending on where it was stored.
