Recently I bought a Oceanic Delta 4 FDX10 regulator for a dive trip to Roatan. It operated wonderfully until I rolled over on my back. The regulator stopped flowing. I was at Mary's Place and various other sites when this air interruption would occur. I was at about 65 to 85 feet when this happened. Not being able to breath at 80 feet is really annoying. Once I rolled back over everything was fine. I did this a number of times because it was puzzling.

I returned the regulator to the SCUBA store here in Dallas. Talked to an Oceanic Rep from California and he gave me the phone number of a technician at Oceanic. Everyone was shocked at this problem except the Oceanic Tech who said he has the same regulator and when you roll over it does become harder to breath. It shouldn’t be as hard to inhale (almost no air at all) as mine but it is a quirk of the new Delta 4 FDX10 regulator.

Has anyone else experienced this problem to this degree? I going diving off the Costa Rican Pacific Coast in a few weeks and I am planning on buying the same regulator, especially if I can have a better feeling about its air flow when I’m on my back or inverted.

I've got one and I've NEVER had anything like that happen, its breathes great at any depth and in any position. Are you sure when you rolled over you weren't bending the hose??

Hello Toby…Welcome to Scuba Board.

NO regulator should stop working in ANY position. All single hose regulators breath a bit harder when inverted, but not the extreme of shutting off. Did the shop refund your money? If not, tell the manager if they need to keep it you need a loaner for your trip. If you do not get any satisfaction from your LDS and you live in the Dallas area, go see the good (albeit ugly) folks at ScubaToys http://www.scubatoys.com/ they are Oceanic Dealers. Mention that you are a member at Scuba Board for a discount.

Hey, I too have the Delta 4 FDX10 and have dove it below 100' and in water temperatures in the mid 30's (F). Have never had any issues with the reg at all. Make sure you you adjust the inhalation effort and flip the Venturi switch. That should not have caused the problem you mentioned, but it should help. Great reg though, I would buy another.

I've also have this reg for about two years now and haven't had any problems with it, inverted or otherwise.

Let's be clear about this. Did it become harder to breath or did it stop delivering air?

Doug, You must get out more often.
