A fellow student found this company online, he's buying a tank from the owner for his wife. We're thinking of doing some dives with this company while we are in the area - we're carpooling together for our checkout dives in FL next month.

Anyone ever gone diving with them? The price the other student was quoted was $75 a person for 2 dives, plus air (at least 2 tanks each person @ $8 a piece) and equipment rental, is that a good price? It seemed kind of high to me when you factor in that we'll have to rent equipment and pay for air. Do we have better options in the area?

Captain Jim Mims lives!!!!! The last I had heard, Jim was doing a big salvage job out of the area. Jim is an icon in the local dive community but I hadn't seen him around for over a year until he posted in another group I'm in earlier this week so the salvage job must be over. You'll be diving with a living legend :) Ocean Diving - About Us

Rate is kinda high..., I'm used to paying $45-60 recreational when I bring my own tanks. The low end is if i have a trip card, i.e. bulk purchase...
Tanks should run ~$10/piece

Thanks. This is for two dives (one in the morning one in the afternoon) a few hours apart. I still will not have most of my own equipment, and my husband will have none or very little, so this might get a bit expensive. There will just be the four of us on the boat. We haven't made reservations yet because I haven't found out for sure if my husband can get the extra day off work so all advice is appreciated before we do so!

Dives or trips?
Recreation charters/trips usually involve two dives.... The prices I listed are per trip/2 dive sites...

Dives. One trip, two dive sites.

An add-on question, what other companies would be recommended north of the Ft. Lauderdale area? We've got to leave that night to start half-way home, and will be staying the night in Atlanta that night. However, if we're going to make the 2 1/2 hour drive down to Ft Lauderdale to pick up this air tank anyway, what are our other options for diving in that area, especially for brand-new divers?

Try the American Dream 2 in Fort Lauderdale. Not sure what operations are North of Fort Lauderdale. Some members have talked about Boyton Beach but I dont know much on that area.

I may have to start a new thread for additional suggestions, but thanks for the most recent. I'll look up Boyton Beach and American Dream 2 and see what they've got available.
