I heard last year that there is no diving in this OBX area this late in the year, is that true? I am going to be staying in Manteo the 13-19 and was hoping to get on a boat. I talked to one shop and they said that the only place that was running anything was out of Hatteras...an hour and a half away...

Lemme know what ya know! :)

I can't speak for the operators out of Oregon Inlet, but in Hatteras we are going out whenever the weather is good enough for diving until Nov/Dec. Last time I was out was last Thursday and the surface water was 83 at the Proteus. Up to the north the water temps have already dropped a bit, but no reason not to go out and dive. Diving form Oregon Inlet can be very good, but the drive to Hatteras will be worth it.

I have been out diving every month of the year in Hatteras and it can be very good even in February. The main thing you must watch is the weather and we had to cancel last weekends diving, but this can happen anytime of the year. I have a trip scheduled for the 13/14th but I believe it is filled by the dive club so I dont think I can help you out this time.

Thanks for the help! I will check into Ghost! Dave, I do want to run with you guys soon. I have heard good things about your op. With the distance from Manteo, and the fact that I will be with three non divers and only one car, I won't be able to this time. I have you bookmarked tho!

Outer Banks Dive Center in Nags Head will run this time of year, but it is weather and interest dependent.
