Hey all, I recently got the GoPro dive housing and am planning on using it for an upcoming trip to Hawaii. I am wondering what kind of maintenance you all perform for the O-ring in this housing. I have 2 Canon Powershot cameras and underwater cases that I regularly take out and clean and apply silicone grease to. Do you all do this with the GoPro housing as well?

Thanks in advance!

Rinse the ring and clean the groove but use no grease. Beyond that, visually inspect the seal as you close it back up.

why should you avoid silicon grease?

*edit* I didn't mean that to come across as flip...I have wondered myself about seal maintenance and was wondering it I should treat it like all other seals I use diving, where you lubricate them with silicon grease.

What harm would be done by using silicon grease?

No harm would be done,_BUT_silicon grease will easier take up/ hold dust and small particles on the o-ring, like on your dry-suit zipper ( if you use one). And it will be harder to clean the o-ring.

Silicone grease can also cause some types of seals to swell. Don't know if it will happen with GoPro seals but they are definitely a different material composition than the regular camera seals so who knows how they will behave with it.
