Anyone tell me what they use to lube the o-rings in your regulators and other gear. I have used petroleum jelly on hydraulic and pneumatic systems and was curious on the breathing systems. CZS

Either silicone or an oxygen compatible lubricant such as christolube are commonly used.

Petroleum jelly is not to be used on diving gear. The petroleum base will act as a solvent on many of the compounds. I personally use oxygen safe lubes, as they are safe on all of the commonly found materials.

PAPD:
Is silicone lub. incompatible with nitrox system?
Yes. Silicone lubricants are not suitable for use in conjunction with high ppO2 gases due to the flammability risk. Christo-Lube or Halocarbon are better (though not perfect) choices.

Although you can use silicone on just air regs and even on your second stages (becaus they are low pressure) I prefer to keep it consistant with cristo lube. Also I use the cristo lube always because if you ever want to go to nitrox, it saves you alot of cleaning.

O-Ring lube?

Man, I'd really rather not get anywhere near a lubed up O-Ring.
