Join United Divers of NH for their 5th annual X-Mas Tree Night dive. :xmas:

When: Saturday November 29th, 2003
Where: Nubble Light House

In '99, UDNH started a tradition coinciding with the Christmas lighting of the Nubble Lighthouse. In the early afternoon, a tree is secured on the bottom of the pupular dive site and around 6:00 PM, the club members and any divers wanting to participate dive with an audience of over 2,000 people watching as the divers raise the lit tree. Shortly after, the seasonal lights are turned on at the island.

Anyone interested is more than welcomed to join in the water but are advised to be there by 4:00 PM as the parking lot will be closed to traffic after 4:00. Feel free to bring Cyalume stick to hang on the tree. Come even if you don't plan to get wet. For more info, contact me or Gary Thuiller at thuillier@netzero.net or (603) 487-3001. :stnick:

Great dive.
Who is the memorial dedicated to?
I had no idea it was there and stumbled on it returning from my first dive. I cleaned it off, had a moment of silence and the pressed on. What were the events?

I beleve the one you are talking about is place at the edge of the wall near the entery area.

My undrstanding is it is for a local diver who died a few years ago (not at nubble), but nubble was his favorite dive site so his friends place it there. However I could be wrong.

It sounds like a good time. I will be there with some friends.

The memorial is to Larry Bowdish.

He died during a deep air dive.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Thanks.

I'll be up @ Nubble on Sat but not to dive- just a spectator

I am planning on arriving around 08:30 to dive with a friend
from NZ-chusetts.

The dive club will probably start arriving at noon-ish.

The UDNH guys will probably start showing up around 1:00 ish for first dive. (To submerge tree) Then some will go back in again at dusk just before the lighting of Lighthouse to bring tree up.

I know they close off parking lot around 4:00 to cars so if you are there before 4, you'll be ok to have your car near entry/exit point.

A LOT of people go to this. About 1500-2000. They have shuttles from nearby beach parking lots to the lighthouse.
