The warm temps, calm winds/seas of last week had me crawling out of my skin. Couldn't wait to duck out of work early Friday to get out. We chose Nubble for a some afternoon & dusk/night dives. VIS was unusually clear! Quite the surprise when I put my head under. We had at least 30 feet (at depth could clearly see surface) Winds were from SW Friday so that helped.

1st dive poked out beyond small island to other side to about 47 feet It was so odd being out there with good vis. We had gone in shortly after low tide. (high tide was at 9:30)

2nd Dive cruised straight out to mini wall/ledge. Same depth

After burger and frappe from that restaurant next to nubble that can't remember the name of, did night dive.

Looked for resident torpedo ray's but found Lots of critters. And yes did see many bugs out in afternoon including one big momma that came out at night.. They're coming in closer.

Water temp varied 43 to 47. Given wanted to get 3 dives, dove Dry. Good choice as air temp cooled down a bit when fog/mist rolled in and didn't want to be cold for night dive.

So odd driving down from Merrimack 78 degrees, then 70, 62 and then 58 degrees when got to York.

Had a nice treat as got to meet Bernie Chowdhury, the author of the "Last Dive" who was diving there with a group of friends from NJ. (Story of father & son that died after diving the U-boat of NY)

Must do again next Fri if week holds out like last week

Sounds like a nice dive. Too cold yet for me as I am diving wet. Maybe in August. I read that book recently and was horrified at the unhealthy relationship and atttitudes of the father and son team. In the end, it costs them their lives. The author had a near death experience himself diving deep on a wreck. I'm glad he is still able to enjoy diving.

Well put, LobstaMan. I read that book last year also and it totally made me reevaluate why I dive. It puts everything into perspective. Required reading for all serious divers, and recommended reading for anyone else regardless of aquatic inclinations.

ReefSeal, was Mr. Chowdhury a good guy, or was he nose-in-the-air? I really hope he was a stand-up dude.

Was definately good guy. We invited him and he agreed to speak at our dive club's annual banquet. It was great to have met him.
