I am ready for this dive. I will meet everyone at the Alhambra site and after we get set up and the oil starts getting hot I will drive over and get Jenny at the other beach.

I am looking forward to this outing and the fun and games that accompany every Conch Event.

In the spirit of the holiday we might even see an authentic Indian woman!

Let's keep it at alhambra. The directions posted are to there, and it's not too far from amenities (after all, what's a wetsuit for). For those of you from out of town, Venice Beach is not that big. It's very easy to find people. For instance, at alhambra, we'll probably be the only cars.

If you're concerned about finding us, PM me and I'll give you my cell number.

No worries about confusion, we'll figure it out!!

Easy identifyer is my 3x5 dive flag, but it looks like we'll also be attracting Pete (NetDoc, da big kahuna of ScubaBoard) out to the event and he also has a banner I believe. Normally I hang the banner off of a cross member on the portable carport that shows up.. I'm thinking of a flag pole this time with one of the beach umbrella corkscrew things to hold it up.

I don't know anything about the Crows Nest Marina... I do know about the Crows Nest at 'Tween Waters Inn on Captiva though! :D

Whose got Ann's # so we can call this and set it straight... Alhambra suits the needs of a dive group meeting oh so much better... :)

It seems that there is some confusion over where to meet. Is there a ScubaBoard Banner available to mark the spot? Perhaps a giant dive flag? Some other unique identifier? That way everyone can find the group.

I asked this question before, but perhaps it got lost somewhere. Does anyone know about the Crow's Nest Marina? Perhaps I should tie up there rather than anchoring off the beach.

I got confirmation from my buddy John- we'll be there, though 9am is way too early for us. It's 300 miles from Largo. We probably won't make it until noon. Any idea what time the diving will be happening?

Thanks,
Andy

Well I can't go this year because I'm working but my vote should still count to leaving it at Alhambra site, The Public Beach with bathrooms is walking distance.

Austin, The Crow's Nest is further North of the Dive/Party Site inside the Venice Inlets also known as "Jetties". I believe there is a fee to dock there and space is limited and usually reserved for customers of the Restaurant there. You will do better by "beaching your boat closer to the party location.

I know that it will be a great time, sure wish I could go.:banghead:

I can now say I am a definate, providing hotel bulla is still open for me and a few chickies... As far as Ann needing to be filled in, she is still on her cruz until Sunday I believe. She's suppose to give me a check in call when she makes it back safely to dry land. I will definetly tell her to check out the thread seeing how I have no clue as to where ya'll are talking about. I like where we were last year, but will go wherever the Chonchs are (providing my Bulla babies are at the same location).. Looks like it will be me and my gils, Darrel is working (ooh the shock there...actually, I have to be nice, he did take three days off to hang out with just me before the turkey fry)

I miss ya'll a bunch and cant wait to have a look-see... Hey, what am I bringing? Any chance of me maybe just making a cash donation to someone elses cause?

OK, so I watch for dive flag at Alhambra and all the Conchs gathering teeth...

Oh-oh, I don't know from nothin' about lookin' for teeth, except what they look like.

Is there any special equipment? What's a good collecting bag?

Bare hands seems logical.

I assume negative bouyancy is good for crawling on the bottom?

I read that this was a prehistoric river, but I wonder why all those critters landed here?

Any theories?

Sounds like Florida West is a good place to get a fill.

Any advice for this tooth newbie will be appreciated.

Oh, one last question....How long is the walk from parking to the beach? My wife doesn't walk so good, and the wheel chair boggs down in the sand.

As always, thanks in advance for the words of wisdom.

I too, am looking forward to this adventure.

Olddiver, you won't have to look hard. There probably won't be more than 2 or 3 non-conch vehicles there, and you'll probably be able to see us before you park.

For toothin' all you need is a fine mesh bag. Florida west sells the perfect bags for around $7. I'll also have a couple of extra ones. You can bring a garden trowel or other digging tool, but hands (and an occasional fin) works perfectly.

Yes, negative bouyancy is good for this dive. You want to be able to easily stay on the bottom at 15', and if there's a good swell being light won't be too fun toward the end of the dive - there are not a lot of heavy rocks there you can pick up for ballast.

The theory is that this area was a "meg nursery". Remember, at one time Florida was completely water covered.

The walk from parking to the beach is not far (50 yards, maybe), and it's mostly over pretty packed sand. I'm sure that we can arrange for you to park closest and there will be plenty of assistance available.

Hey, thanks for the info, ReefGuy, This sounds like a great Satuday afternoon. Planning and anticipation are part of the fun. I'll bring a few extra rocks and a kiddies sandbox shovel.

We look forward to meeting everyone.

Well I will be packing gear sometime this week and getting my boat ready, and possibly heading up there friday with CBulla and camping out somewhere near there. I finished the sea trials yesterday and all went well, no oil leaks, no over temp, and best of all I am back to improved 1 to 1 configuration on the gear and prop. Bout time right........ And no Jenny the repair money's didn't go towards beer.

Impatiently waiting for the weekend. See ya'll there
