Just thought I'd share this email I received. I do not know if it's true or not but it does look like something the telemarketing firms could do in order to continue calling people.

The following is the text from the email:

This is to all of you that signed up for the "do not call" law.

This week I received a card in the mail that looked alright-- It said "vote for your favorite cola - Pepsi or Coke- and receive a complementary 12 pack" It didn't look suspicious--but for some reason I kept looking at it. THEN I FOUND IT !! At the bottom of the card there is a VERY small statement. It is SO small it is hard to read--but here is what it says----
"By completing this form, you agree that sponsors and co-sponsors of this offer may telephone you , even if your number is found on a do not call registry or list "
This REALLY upset me and I just wanted all my friends to be aware of this way to get around the "do not call" law !! Just think how many people will send this in and their do not call registry will be NO GOOD !! The company's name is MARKET SOLUTION. Please send this to all your friends that signed up for " do not call" . I think this is just one of what we will get in the future--so READ EVERYTHING before you SIGN AND SEND !! AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT.!!!! PLEASE !!!

I'm still laughing scubasean!

:)

Seriously, I don't fill those sort of unsolicited mailings out - I know I'll end up with more junk mail.

BTW, the National do not call list goes into effect in October. Some have thought it took effect when they signed up.

remember that the do not call list does not apply to Insurance companies*. They can still call you. Why? Good question. My guess is a VERY strong lobby.

Wristshot

Dude,
You should really do a www.google.ca search on SPAM. Hopefully the info you find will help you to identify crap like this in the future. That e-mail was almost as bad as the virus alert about some new worm that could cause your computer to burn your morning toast or some such nonsense
As for the contents of the e-mail, this has to be a hoax, but I'll bite.. Seriously, this is Spam (and lousy even by Spam standards, such as they are..). Even if it's not, anyone silly enough to actually fill out a marketing survey they reveived in the mail deserves what they get. How can anyone who's been on this planet for even a short amount of time not expect to get shafted buy a "Free sample for a few minutes of your time!" card in the mail.

Sorry in advance if this sounds a little too hostile, but spam really brings out the worst in me ;-)

Just curious, are you saying I'm spamming the board or that I'm being spammed with the email?

BTW, check the profile pic, I'm a dudette :)

You would be amazed at the mailings that are sent out by companies to dupe people into thinking the letter is something important. There are advertisements that look so much like a piece of certified mail that the postal workers have to look at it twice, same goes for registered mail.

Advertisers send out mailings that look like they are coming from a government entity and they use VERY small print to admit they aren't affiliated with any government agency.

I would not be the least bit surprised if I started seeing offers such as this come through the mail. I don't know how many times Disney has called me and said, "We're calling because someone in your household filled out an online survey." Well, no one in my household fills out surveys online or otherwise and it ticks me off that Disney would lie about it.

I'm a night shift worker and let's just say I'm not a happy camper when telemarketers call me and wake me up. Unfortunately they won't give me their home phone numbers so I can call at a time that's convenient for me to discuss their offer (I go to lunch at approx. 3am, that's a good time for me).

I received that email and posted it because I know that although most people here wouldn't be duped by something like that someone might have an elderly parent or grandparent who wouldn't recognize what the mailing actually was.

Thanks for the link, I'll be the first to admit I'm not computer savvy and with a connection speed of 21.6 Kbps I don't do a whole lot of searching.

Sorry if I offended anyone, that was never the intention.

Ber:
I think you're spamming the board. I think I should report you to the regulators! Ha! Wait you are one.
Seriously girl, thanks for the heads up.
And keep up the good work. I still love those heels.

Lol, indeed and quite a cute one at that ;-) I didn't check before I opend my mouth. No I was not suggesting in any way you were spamming the board, sorry if I gave you that impression. I typically start foaming at the mouth whenever spam rears it's ugly head ( How many e-mail ads for goat sex/penis enlargment/Viagra can a guy be expected to sit back and take? Jesus, what do they think I do on a typical weekend??lol).. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone. Corporate marketing tactics are getting so underhanded these day it seems there really is no recourse for the average consumer. I mean, way to stretch the "previous business relationship" clause.
BTW in Canada we do not have a "do not call list" yet so a popular tactic for telemarketers is once they get you on the phone and ask for you, say sure, just hold on a sec... Then put the phone down an go about your business. Come back to the phone in a few minutes and chances are they'll be gone. If not just say, "sorry, just one minute please". The idea being to keep them busy doing nothing and costing the company time.. Since they generally call around diner time I'm happy to leave the phone off the hook and let them listen to me cook up a storm :D

Cheers

Ber Rabbit- what a disgusting scam, so typical of the "business" world. But then why expect anything ethical from an activity that is essentially amoral (a-ethical) and whose only purpose is to make money. Ethical behavior is exhibited by individual business owners and workers but too seldom by corporate entities these days.

Look at the news today... Enron and WorldCom's top corporate officers, responsible for stealing money from thousands of human beings, may not even have charges filed against them! What kind of a society have we evolved into? If a poor black or Hispanic steals a few hundred dollars to feed their family (NOT to buy drugs), they're tossed in jail. As far as I'm concerned the white collar criminals deserve to be tortured to death (and I'm a pacifist).

By the way Ber Rabbit... do you dibe in heels too? You look absolutely awesome and I'd enjoy becoming your kelp forest dive buddy if your inner self is as nice as your outer self. Your mileage may vary. Another shameless suggestion from...

Dr. Bill
