Still need to get AOW in plus some more dives, but anyone have any suggestions on tech diving (Tech 1, cave, etc) education places up here? I live near boston and would prefer not to have to drive 250 miles.....(of course staying out of boston would be a plus too ;) )

I would recommend Tom Huff at Northeast Scuba in Chelmsford. His shop is very tech oriented and I have enjoyed my tech classes. You do not get a pass for any skill you cannot do. You will need to take more time to get it down and demonstrate to his satisfaction before you will pass. He also has real world experience (33 yrs diving, >3000 dives and a practicing technical diver).

There is not a lot of hand holding in these classes. If your priority is learning from someone with real world experience this would be a good choice.

Thank you all for your replies. Cave diving up here does seem rather limited (true blue quarry in VT is the only place i've heard of. Guess i'll have to get a job in FL if i want to get into it on a regular basis) I was looking more into the noncave tech side of things (deco, trimix, wreck penetration). Again, I have a while before i'm ready for that, but thought I see if you guys had any suggestions. And I'm glad you do.

Would taking AOW and Rescue through some of these places be a good idea? Or are at that level are they all pretty much the same?

So long as the instructor's good, the class will be good. I don't think you need to go out of your way to take AOW or Rescue from a tech instructor, but it probably wouldn't hurt either.
