Hello,

I am a PADI Dive Master with a goal to dive in all 50 states. I will be in North Carolina on business in the next few weeks and would love to do some diving. Can anyone help me find information about shore diving in the Wilmington, NC area? Is there anything in Topsail? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can dive on the Jetty on the south end of Wrightsville Beach. You gotta do it on a calm day at high slack tide. Currents and bad vis can be an issue, but several spearfishermen haunt the jetty every day.

You can dive on the civil war blockade runner in Carolina Beach....General Beaureguard....from shore. Go to Carolina Beach, go south on 421 towards Ft. Fisher. When you come to Spartanburg Ave (Scotchman quick mart store on right), turn left, drive to public beach access parking, suit up, and walk over the boardwalk.
You can see the wreck above the surface at low tide, so better to get a vector to it at low tide, then dive it at high tide. Vis is never great on it, but sheepshead and flounder like to call her home.

If you're gonna be here in NC, you might as well skip the shorediving, and get on a charter to some of the best wreck diving in US! Warm water, clear vis, and pelagic species.....

Hope this was helpful

Thanks Tom,

I would love to join a boat dive outing. However, I only have Sunday afternoon (20 Aug 06) to dive and I can't get to the shore until 1-2 pm. I think the last boats leave by 12:30 pm. Got any other suggestions?

Jim

Check Discovery Diving in Beaufort; they have afternoon trips that leave around 3, get back around 6 or 7; usually to the Indra for one dive or two short 25 minute dives.
