I am looking to come up to New England to do some diving and visit some friends in August. Anyone interested in making some plans ahead of time. I have never dove anywhere in New England need some ideas and I am open to go anywhere. Primary interests are ocean dives, possibly some lake dives.

"New England" covers a lot of ground, what area specifically?

I will be staying in southern NH. May only be there on a Monday through Friday possibly can stay through a weekend. I can travel any where within 2-3 hours which should keep some options open. Would like to do some wreck dives and possibly some spearfishing if available.

I live in Southern NH. (Merrimack) I'll send you a PM with my contact info. Give me a call when you are up here. Basically, your best options for diving around here are Nubble lighthouse in York Beach, ME (about 1 1/2 hour from Merrimack), the Portsmouth NH and NH Coastline (about hour away), Cape Ann (Rockport/Gloucester) About 1 away. There is more further south in Rhode Island too but I have never been there yet.

A good URL for description of sites:

In Cape Ann, my favorites are Folly Cove, Cathedral Rocks.

For wreck dives, you need to check w/ some of Charter co's that operate out of Gloucester and NH (strongly recommend Cape Ann Charters. Good operation) More info on Dive charters can be found on http://www.scuba-newengland.com/DiveBoats.asp

Would recommend for wrecks off Cape Ann Poling, Nina T or Haight.

Spearfishing from shore, you won't find any big ones. You'll see flounder, Stripped bass, Pout.

Hi Jax, when you say spearfishing do you mean freediving or on scuba? There is great spearfishing on the NH coastline for stripe bass and tautog, you can not spear the bass in Ma. I spearfish or scuba 2-3 times a week depending on the tides. Try www.capeanndivers.com they have a web site with a list of charters going out. Be warned some of the better dives fill fast. They are a good friendly boat. What kind of suit are you planning on using? I went out with them last Friday water temp on the bottom was 42F. send me an email if you would like more info. or to go out.
