Couldn't have said it better myself.Leaks, malfunctions, etc. can easily be a cause, but...
every time you raise an inflator hose with the exhaust button pressed but there is no air to come out, at least a little water is let into the hose to drain back into the bladder. The more you try to let out air that doesn't exist, the more water will build up. Failure to lift the hose high enough may also allow some water into the hose, which may or may not find its way back into the bladder depending on your next move.
When I see divers struggling with buoyancy and their inflator hose, I know that there is going to be a fair amount of water to drain from the BCD.
? Our wings have two ways to vent air- the oral power inflator and the bottom left overpressure relief and dump valve. If you need to dump air from the shoulder, the only way to do it is with the inflator... Did you mean the bottom left dump valve, not shoulder dump? And this is why the INFLATOR should remain bungeed out of the way
and the shoulder dump used to dump air, from where the air actually

I have one wing with a shoulder dump valve, and two with a bottom dump valve. Their location may vary depending on the design. Whenever I dump air from any of them, I have to adjust my body to make sure it’s at the top, and there is actually air to dump. I use the dump button on the inflator hose only to initiate the first decent from the surface, if at all.? Right... but this thread is specifically regarding our Deep 6 wing, which has no shoulder dump. So I'm a little confused why you would suggest that only the non-existent shoulder dump should be used... When you are in a horizontal position, is the bottom dump valve on the top or the bottom? I preferred the dump valve on the top because it made sense that it would dump the air more thoroughly and I wondered why some wings have it on the bottom. Now I'm beginning to suspect that if it's on the top it allows water to enter more easily once all the air is let out than the ones with the valve on the bottom.
Almost every time I fly the suitcase that contains my backwing/harness gets opened and searched. I wondered why and now I think it may be because there is some water left in it so now I'll be more careful to completely empty it before packing. The thing is, however, that I thought it was OK to have liquids in a checked bag. Am I wrong?
