I am sorry to see the thread about no trolling. I do from time to time have what I feel are honest question about DIR & this is the only place I have exposure to DIR information - but at the same time someone might think I was "trolling". So guess I will have to be satisfied with what info I can glean from others posts.

Becky

Huh...sorry Becky...why don't you feel free to ask your questions? There is nothing in the world wrong with asking questions...that is NOT trolling at all. As far as I can tell, the purpose of this forum is to ASK questions WITHOUT FEAR of being flamed. Hence the extra diligence in making sure that Trolling is grounds for serious reprimand.

Becky if you read the link I provided in the No Trolling sticky thread at the top of the DIR forum you will understand that it is perfectly fine to ask questions and even to disagree with the answers!

What is not going to be allowed is the intentional flame baiting and disruption of deliberate trolling.

Since there is no definite line between what might appear to some as merely disagreeable and others consider blatant trolling... I will attempt to be fair but firm in granting requests for vacations.

To all... if you have any questions about the appropriateness of a thread you would like to start in the DIR forum please feel free to PM me ahead of time for a free evaluation.

I think a "no trolling zone" is a good idea ... and the article enlightening. I hope other mods apply it equally to other forums on SB. People should be able to post questions and get answers without ridiculing or harrassing language from others who "Do it Differently" (DID) ... regardless of whether those questions pertain to the proper way to tie off a boltsnap or how to attach accessories to an H.U.B. system.

Personally I find DIR a fascinating topic (although I don't dive that way) ... I'd prefer to see it discussed without the constant harrassment that inevitably falls on those trying to do the discussing ...

Clarification please.

"What is not going to be allowed is the intentional flame baiting and disruption of deliberate trolling."

This seems to say we aren't allowed to intentionally "flame bait." I would understand that to mean we shouldn't try to get others to flame us. Is that correct?

It also seems to say we aren't allowed to disrupt deliberate trolling. If I'm correct, you meant to say the opposite. Is that correct"?

He's just missing some emphasis on specific words - try reading it aloud.
I think a better phraseology would have been:
What is not going to be allowed is the intentional flame baiting and disruption that results from deliberate trolling.

Do you honestly need it explained?

I would argue that yes, it needs to be clear....One word flipped Pug's post on its ear I would have thought he meant "disruption *by* deliberate trolling" also, but.....ya just never know.

Becky has a good point in that it does appear that controversial questions may
be a troll from some folks, but legit questions from others.

Seems to me that you'd just shut down a troll thread[as it starts, not by determining twenty posts later in hindsight], and caution the originator, but I'm not running the show. :)

I would appreciate that, as I can't seem to grasp the point at which humor becomes trolling.

Except a moderator can't read every thread as it starts. I've said this earlier - I think there's a huge difference between asking about DIR's philosophy related to (split fins/cameras/pony bottles/Air 2's/poodle BC's etc) and saying something like "I will be doing a DIR trip and will require the DIR chicken and rice so as to not upset the normal gastric flora and potentially place my jejunum out of trim. "
