I had my annual USCG inspection today and passed with flying colors. Woohoo! It's only my second year running an inspected vessel, so I'm thrilled. I have gotten to know the CWO who did my inspection pretty well over the past two years. I think this really helped. He's a good, fair guy.

What kind of issues have you run into with inspectors over the years?

Years ago, I was one. I tried to be fair but objective. And I was "even more fair" if the boat's (ship's) representative told me about a problem up front rather than studiously saying nothing or actively trying to hide it. This is pretty much the Coast Guard's approach to most marine safety issues, it seems to me after being both inside, and later on the outside dealing with them.
