This was much more than 8 students. This group didn't show up until at leat 5 p.m. and it was probably later than that. In any case...It was some sad divers.

cstreu1026:I am doing a drysuit certification this weekend at Blue Springs in Indiana but next weekend I am hoping to head somewhere to dive. I'll let you know if I am going to be in the neighborhood.
Diver Lori:What shop are you going with for drysuit this weekend?
ZoCrowes255:That was actually the rescue portion of my advanced class and TWO students had their masks on their forehead. I am an Instructor not a babysitter. They are certified divers and it's their choice how they want to dive I am not going to force them. I will tell them the drawbacks of having the mask on the forehead (you're going to lose it) HOWEVER it is NOT my job to force them to put it down around their necks (where I prefer it.)
Saturday night was a lot of people and not all of them were my students. A few just tagged along. HOWEVER if you have a problem with any of my group come and talk to me about it before you bash anyone on a message board.
Sunday went a lot smoother because I just had my own students out there.
Kenny and Ed it was great meeting you guys and I hope to go diving with you all again.
Last Saturday was a bad representation of my classes because not everyone out there was taking my class. Fortunately Sunday went a whole lot smoother because I did not have a herd to contend with and had plenty of help.CincyBengalsFan:Totally agree with having them do their own thing...when they are on their own not under supervision. Especially when it comes to choice of diving and gear (dir Vs. PADI) etc. etc.
But as an Instructor I always considered myself a babysitter. I don't care if they are in Advanced, Nx. etc. etc. I correct what I see is wrong in my group. But once class is over...Hey...They can do whatever they want to do. Class with me usually ends about 2 p.m. After that...They can dive anyway they want. Just not anyway under my watch.
As far as trying to find out what group is who before I "Bash" someone on the board. You are kidding right?
We will be camping out down at Joe's the 19-20. I doubt if I'll sleep in his loft this trip. Probably just pitch a tent. We'll have two portable compressors and plenty of grills fired up. Come on out and I'll supply the beer when the diving is finished for the day (Zcrowe only on the free beer).

I don't really consider being an Instructor being a babysitter. I will give all my post-OW students advice to help make them better divers but if they choose not take it that is their own priority. If they are in my class and I see anything that is blatently stupid or unsafe you can be damn sure I am going to correct it but little things like masks don't bother me.
I may have to take you up on that offer I should be free that Sunday. Any idea where you will be setup at?
