Advance nitrox is rather not comparable to AOW. It's simply the basic course you have to do before starting technical diving - sort of an intro to more advanced/technical diving.
And this is a serious and difficult course while in fact AOW is not
Mania

Recreational dives can take advantage of Nitrox.

Advanced nitrox is for those who would like to do some other dives and use the benefits in using Nitrox mix.

but taking the Advanced Nitrox is a sure advantage in understanding more how oxygen and nitrogen affects our bodies.

it's quite a fun experience though.

These are two completely different types of courses. Nitrox is simply a class that teaches you to dive with an air mix of more than 20.9% oxygen. Advanced open water in SSI (SCUBA Schools International) consists of four specialty courses. Nitrox is one of these courses. In SSI you can take each specialty course at leisure and recieve a card for each. Then, once you have four of them, we issue you your advanced open water diver card.

Look at the post dates. Do you think Gaucho has waited almost 4 years for that answer?? ;)

It is nice to see that some members check out the older threads!! There is a lot of good stuff there!!

A little more clarification for you: The nitrox course teaches you what you need to know for 2 mixes, which are 32%, and 36%. Advanced nitrox teaches you to use any mix between 21% & 50%. The value of the advanced nitrox is that it teaches you some more advanced principes, like figuring a Max operating depth for a given mix, or figuring a best mix for a given depth. It is correctly mentioned above that advanced nitrox is an "introductory tech course" only in the sense that it is generally a prerequisite to tech nitrox, trimix, extended range diving, etc. An advanced nitrox certification still imposes recreational depth limits.

TDI basic allows any mix up to and including 40% along with the methods of calculating optimum mix and MOD for the mixes etc.

The advanced is up to 100% o2, gas switching and accelerated deco.

Maybe with your agency. With mine, the Nitrox class teaches 21 - 40% with MOD, with best mix. If that's left out, it isn't much of a course.

yes, that would of course be with my agency....I don't teach nitrox from your agency.

LOL, that's what I was thinking.

IANTD offer this course. And it's usually combine with Deep Air/Adv Nx. It's like the beginning class to enter Tech diving.
