I'm doing some research on getting my first comp. I know that I want to do Nitrox shortly so this is a necessary feature. Other than supporting Nitrox, I'm really looking for something pretty basic as I haven't actually done my basic OW checkout dives yet. One other consideration is that I'm a Mac user, so something that supports Mac or is supported by a 3rd party app that runs on Macs would be great.

Generally I'm going to be lake diving with trips down to the Gulf as often as I can squeeze it into the schedule/budget. Short term, I don't plan on doing any dives much deeper than the basic OW recommendation of 60', but I want something that I can use for a year or two that will end up getting relegated to a backup computer down the road. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

I really can't stand Suunto's as I have had a few BUT the Suunto Gekko or Zoop is a great computer for what you ask.

Look at the Mares Puck - great computer, supports Nitrox and really easy to use.

Since that's not a reason to dislike them, could you explain?

The Aladin tec 2g is nice and has a DSS bungee mount available. (I'd avoid Suunto too.) If the one you finally choose doesn't have Mac support, no worries. The Sensus Ultra does, and is easy to use and trouble free.

I really don't feel like I need to explain WHY I don't like them but if you want to know I have had problems with them. Loss of air integration for example at depth and not reconnecting till I surface. I found the screen to small to show the details I require, especially when using the compass. I did not like the compass after using it for a while and after having a battery changed at a dealer, one flodded after approx 10 dives.
The sentance "I don't like them, I have had a few" refers to "I don't like them and as I have had a few so it's not just a unbiased opinion"

Actually that's kind of the idea here; so thanks for humouring me

Rongoodman......you had better explain why you would avoid Suntos pretty quick or the opinion police will be after you aswell!!!

I hear that the Sub Gear XP-10 is the same computer, and this is currently my front runner for price and features. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have AI which is something I would really like but it seems to have a ton of features for the price. It's kind of hard to ask for more in a comp at that price, or so it seems.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was unreasonable to ask you to explain why you don't like something
