Nitek Duo question

I have a Nitek Duo and have a question.

What exactly do the 0,1,2, settings change as far as how conservative the computer calculates the dive?

Does it change the gradient factors? Or use another method.
If it changed the gf, what are the factors used in the calculations?

Hey Preacher,

The main difference is how much NDL time each setting will allow for each depth. If you change the settings to each safety factor (0,1, and 2) and check the dive plan mode for each of the safety factors, yyou'll see the differences between them.

Here's an example: (for the first dive)

Plan mode: SF0 SF1 SF2 Aeris dive planner

50ft. 64 min. 57 min. 50 min. 1:25 min.

80 ft. 24 min. 22 min. 20 min. 32 min.

100 ft. 16 min. 15 min. 14 min. 20 min.

130 ft. 9 min. 9 min. 8 min. 11 min.


I compared the Dive Rite Nitek Duo to my Aeris computer just to give you an idea of the conservatism differences.

These values all change of course for your repetitive dives. The Dive Rite algorithm (modified Buhlmann ZH- L16) credits you differently for your surface interval than the Aeris computer does.

The NDL times for the repetitive dives aren't so great between the Dive Rite and the Aeris.

Others can probably elaborate more on this.

The above listed times are what you'll see when checking plan mode for each of the safety factors.

Thanks for the post. I am going to direct you to Page 16 of the NiTek Duo manual:

Click on Downloads to the left of the product description.

You'll see that the conservative factor is not based on gradient factors. It's based on altitude settings using the Buhlmann ZH-L16 algorithm. 0 is the least conservative, 1 is one altitude setting higher and 2 is two altitude settings higher.

It's not too scientific, follows the basic principles of conservatism for altitude diving in order to create a more conservative profile.
