Much to my shock, I just killed my brand new Dive Rite Nitek Duo by dropping it onto a carpet from the height of 50 centimeters! I'm positive on this, the display is completely gone. I tried replacing the battery as well as pressing and holding reset, etc to no avail.

I am going to send it back to the shop where I bought it and will keep you posted.

That is strange considering some of the inadvertent banging around these things can get. I imagine you'll be provided with a replacement but it will be interesting to know the shop's diagnosis.

The shop just wrote me back, they say the computer "had a faulty curcuit board" and a new one will arrive tomorrow or the day after by UPS.

I'm very impressed with their customer service department. If you live in Europe, don't hesitate to buy at www.submariner.de :-)

Good service does matter, and thanks for reporting back. I've got a nitek duo also, I'd like to know it is made hardy enough to take a bumping here or there (unintentional of course).

I'm curious if you'd dove with it at all before its fall -- had it functioned ok during the dive?

Sorry, all the dive time the computer got before breaking were 5 minutes in the bath-tub last week :-) So no, I can't comment on it's suitability for any kind of diving yet. I will do a lot of diving with it in the near future, so I will probably post about it in a few weeks.

Cheers,
Michael
