i'm fairly unfamiliar with the local socal diving scene, so i'm coming out to hit the coronado islands, uss yukon & ruby e, and front & back catalina this week. all these charters get back by ~4 or 5pm. so i'm wondering: are there any good night dives (shore or boat) in this area, from san diego to san pedro? would anyone here like to dive with me? i'm a naui divemaster with a good bit of experience, mostly diving wrecks and springs! shoot me a pm! thanks.

Damn, I am jealous of your itinerary.

Please take note when you dive the Coronados then compare to Catalina. Lots of different flora and fauna. Also, the Coronados could be significantly colder too.

Call Sea D Sea in Redondo Beach (310-373-6355) and ask for the kid that works there named Jake. He's a local shore diver and does many night dives throughout the week. I'm sure he wouldn't mind the company.

Hit up La Jolla Shores for decent night dives. Parking is easy, entry is (usually) easy, navigation is easy, and there's a fair amount to look at right now (possibly including a squid run).

that's exactly what i did! rented an AL80 from dive california on sports arena blvd and drove up to vallecitos point for an AMAZING night dive. millions of squid .. swimming .. mating .. dying. lots of squid "nests." crabs, lobsters, brown shrimp. beds of purple sand dollars. truly the best night dive of my life :D
