Brandy and I had a great time and appreciate you guys letting us dive with you. It was very nice to meet you, Barry and Glen, and good to dive with Walter again. We were exhausted by the time we got back to Mobile @ around 3am. Hopefully you guys will post some of your pictures. We discovered that we hauled about 16 lbs of extra weight in the bottom of the bag we brought out to the jetties...insert sheepish grin here. lol. We live and we learn. Just glad it wasn't 100F. Now, I'm looking at the calendar and tidal charts....I notice that the night during the weekend of October 16th looks pretty good..lol

On a side note...

A big Boo to Destin's Pat O'Briens. We arrived there earlier in the afternoon and went out to the back deck ,to an empty bar, with a big flatscreen. The weather was beautiful. We asked the bartender if it would be possible to turn the Auburn game on @ kickoff and he said it would be no problem so we decided to sit, eat, and enjoy the breeze. We finished eating right as the game was scheduled to start and a second bartender had just come on shift. There was only one other guy that had come out to sit @ the bar and the new bartender had turned on the LSU game. So, we asked the bartender if we were still going to be able to watch the game and he told us we'd have to ask the new guy. The new guy, Donte or something, sort half ignored us for a while and then pretended to go ask the manager. Finally we were told that Pat O'Briens was an LSU bar and that if we wanted to watch Auburn we'd have to go somewhere else. lol. I don't mind really but the way they handled it was pretty bad and I guess they lied at first so that we would sit down and eat. I wouldn't have minded going somewhere else to eat and watch the game but I'm not really all that excited about being lied to or jerked around. So, Boo to you Pat O'Briens.....Ok..I feel better now.

It was great meeting you and Brandy. Just sorry I couldn't dive with you guys. But, Brandy said my light had a good time diving, and that it missed me...so that is good enough!

We had an enjoyable time sitting on the beach and watching your lights. Hopefully we can dive again soon.

Now, as a local I think the Guy at Pat O'Brien's sucks! But, let me say as an LSU fan...I understand not WANTING to watch the Auburn game:D.....but turning the channel on a customer like that TOTALLY makes no sense.

From your perspective, the only thing that makes all that tolerable is that Auburn somehow pulled out a win on that game....I thought they were done!:) I can cheer for Auburn till they play LSU or Florida.

I do have a few surface pictures to post tonight. I am sure Barry will have a few to post sometime also.

Oyster:

If there are better folks to dive with, I have yet to meet them. I hate that I missed diving with you guys, maybe next time.

I've eaten at maybe eight different places in Destin, and I've been more or less underwhelmed by most of them. McGuire's has consistently good food and service, and is one of my favorite debriefing spots. It's hard to beat one of their burgers for a cheap meal with a ton of food. There's also a little spot on the water called Destin Wharf, or Destin Dock, something like that. It's on the water off the main drag, somewhere close to AJ's. It's basically a shack on a wharf that serves food and drink. Their gumbo is pretty hard to beat in the Destin area, but sample it BEFORE you add hot sauce, as it's pretty hot to begin with.

Not that this was right by anymeans, but me being a diehard LSU fan, this is funny.

I must admit, in retrospect it makes me chuckle too...lol. However, I would have respected them more if they'd have come out and said it to start with rather than repeatedly lying about it (and if they'd have had better hair)....and if LSU had been playing someone worth watching...grin..rather than Southwest Lousiniana State Technichal Junior College, SWLSTJC. I'd have really felt like a jerk if I'd have made a huge deal about it and they'd have changed the channel over and then realized AU vs. WV was rain delayed for an hour and then quickly fell behind 14-0. lol.

All of you LSU fans can bite me. lol. Kidding! I have to talk all my trash now because after our game with you guys starts, all i'll be able to do is cry. lol

you guys took that a little better than I would have.

I would have left.

I had no clue that Pat O'Brians was a "LSU Bar". since when did they start serving "Corn Dogs" there? :rofl3:

any pictures of the night dive?

any pictures of the night dive?

Mrxray took all of the pictures in Destin, I didn't bring the camera.

I had a good time and it was nice to meet up with some SB'ers for a fun dive. I have been wanting to do more night dives as I am still not all that comfortable doing them. I was able to see a black snapper with a fish head sticking out of his mouth, which was pretty cool as well as a small southern stingray. Unfortunately I didn't see any octopus out feeding, which is what I was really hoping for. At one point during the dive Barry was trying to get a blue crab out of his hiding place when all of the sudden it took off out of his hands and took a B-line right for my croach area. Luckily I know underwater kung-fu and was able to avoid a catastrophe. I could here Barry laughing through his reg and once I knew the jewels were safe I started laughing myself. I had a good time and I look forward to doing another night dive here again.

I would also like to get out to the Destin Jetties for a day time dive to get more familiar with the site.

We could also go out to Ft. Pickens for a night dive as well :D.
