sorry mate, didn't see your reply.

Mainit is on the mainland just opposite maricaban island. if you look at the satellite picture you'll see that the peninsula (think it's called Calumpan, correct me if i'm wrong pinoy bros.) comes to a point jabbing out at maricaban island. That my friend is mainit, home to some of the funnest dives in anilao . . . just watch that downcurrent!

Thanks, I'll put Mainit on my "to do" list for Anilao.

Hey SD

I have been to Anilao, not to Mainit point. Is it on Maricaban? How is the diving? is it lke Sombrero or Layag Layag?

Hi,
Mainit point is far more better than layag -layag and sumbrero.
I always dive there when i'm at Anilao. Since it's very near the Dive resort. it's always is protected from dynamite fishers and spearfisherman. My buddy even went spend the nite in a jail spearfishing in that place. Me nearly, but very lucky not being caught. but that was 3yrs ago. Now i'm just fun diving.
Well mainit is a good place for your first dive. Go to 30-35 meters then swim to the right of the reef. You can easily spot schooling barracudas and jacks. go to 80 ft. and you might spot a couple of sharks and more jacks and cuddas. and if your lucky you might spot the big grouper with its family.
Hope this helps and see you there in Mainit. :dazzler1:

Thanks for the info. this is the reason why we need more folks like yourself and others to keep us up on detailed information on the Philippine reefs. Sidenote: is underwater photography picking up in the Philippines, I like to see more pictures from there.

Thanks for sharing. It's so cool! :) Is that taal lake with the island volcano? You can even see pamalican island (where the amanpulo resort is)

Slightly off topic, but perhaps fun all the same.

Some very nice images there (in particular the 500m & 250m images).

Always a blast to try to find the smaller islands such as Malapascua,
or the reefs at Tubbataha etc. I think you can even see "White Island" off the north tip of Camiguin. And that's just a sand bar that apperantly disapperas during high tide!

Manila is blissfully covered under a cloud, but the close by Laguna de Bay doesn't look too inviting...

Yup, that's Taal.

My wife is originally from Tanauan, this view makes you realize how close the volcano is to some small cities - hope it doesn't blow again any time soon!

Well I just went sailing in the lake a couple of weeks ago and it seemed pretty calm. I also hiked up to the small crater 3 years ago (It was supposed to be active already then) and it was nice and quiet too. But with these things you never really know.

SF bay area? You're lucky, airfare should be pretty cheap to the PI from SF. Here in midwest, nothing under 1000.

Midwestdvr, amen to that. That's something I missed when I used to live in the Bay Area.
