Being a nut of any description is a mighty big burden to bear, financialy and emotionaly. A true nut has two categories of nutdom. Obsesions that never leave the house, and obsesions that get used on a daily basis. A diving knife is a tool that should be assumed used often and thus subject to wear and possible loss, that does not jibe with option one. Something from e-pay or the afore mentioned trilobite fits number two. Which option are you really inquireing about?

Just got back from Coz and guy there was making his statement by showing off a huge honking knife straped to the outside of his leg. Especially styley with speedo. After parading around he finally doned his gear for his shore dive. One minute later....he asended, ditched all his gear (except knife) to fetch his forgotten weight belt (rentable only in a lovely shade of pink). :amazed:

Good luck in your search. According to my hubby, no such thing as too many knives. (Though we use scissors)

That's what I say! Of course, my wife says something different, with a lot of expletives, regarding the knives and the purchases thereof. :shakehead:

I've been doing some more serious looking and will probably be going with one of the Spyderco Jumpmasters. They're not technically a diving knife, but they are part of the Salt series, so they should do fine. I'll use that and a pair of shears and be just fine.

Are you able to be tempted with the new DIR Buddy Whenfinder Knife Tool.

Knowone,

That is pretty tempting. I'm trying to hold out for an underwater chainsaw, though!

Go all the way or go home: RANDALL VINTAGE #16 DIVER KNIFE - eBay (item 120686152471 end time Feb-23-11 20:10:56 PST)

It has a reasonable buy it now of $850.00

Maybe I should hold out for a custom. I could get it gold plated to cut down on rust for less than that!

Kristopher

Or you could contact the Randall people directly, the price is way waaaay lower than $800.

You can't be in a hurry though... I ordered one a couple of years ago and still have to wait a couple of years more, the wait in 2008 was 57 months. I can't imagine being much worse now, that long wait has a tendency to turn people away.

Knives are funny!

Sitting on a safety stop after a wall dive in Grand Cayman. Nothing but blue below us. Suddenly i catch a flash out of the corner of my eye. Look down and a beautiful quite large dive knife is sinking in to the abyss. Get back on the boat and ask anybody lose a knife? Sure enough a guy checks his leg and it was his and of course it was brand new. 1st dive.

Snorkelling later in the day with the family and there is a girl snorkelling in about 4 feet of water with a 2 food long dive knife strapped to her leg.
