Definitely consider a weekend trip up to Cape Ann, MA. Probably 2.5 hours from New London, but decent diving by New England standards. Cape Ann is a large peninsula about 30 miles north of Boston that has both shore and boat diving. Interesting underwater topography, as the entire area is a gigantic mass of granite - lots of pinnacles, walls and drop-offs, especially on the boat dives. Multiple charter boats offer 1/2 day 2-dive trips each weekend and on weekdays. Traffic can be tough at times, but its worth it.

Some of the local charters:

Cape Ann Divers is probably the most recreational diver-oriented, but Daybreaker does shallower sites as well. CAD runs 2 boats, Daybreaker 1. CAD also runs a brick/mortar dive shop on Cape Ann, providing air fills, gear rentals and advice about shore diving. There are also multiple shops and clubs in the great Boston area that do weekly shore dives....typically meeting Saturday or Sunday at ~8AM from Memorial to Labor Day; some doing weekly night dives. THese are invaluable resources, as you can show up as a single and be paired up with 1-2 others. great way to meet people and learn more about local sites and the local diving scene.

Welcome aboard.

Chris
