Correct you are, DD... I happened to go to John Tyler H.S., once upon a time...
So did a famous football player. Won the Heismann Trophy around '77 or so.

Tyler State Park is a very nice camping/recreational area to the North of Tyler. It is a small (spring fed, I think) lake with non-motorized vehicles only- mostly paddle-boats and canoes. There are screened cabins, etc. for rent and pavillion areas for party's, etc. Lake Tyler, to the Southeast of Tyler, is a large lake, with lots of motorized boats, etc., many residential areas, camping, swimming, boating marinas. It is a great place to live, but I don't know if anyone dives there. That's why I asked TwoBit about the name, because I suspected that he might be thinking of TSP instead. With both having the name "Tyler" in them, it would be easy to think they were one and the same, unless you're from that area.
I actually DID put on a tank & reg. once when I was in college (the first time!) and paddle around a bit in the shallows of Tyler State Park. It was pretty cool, but I was just playing around there with some friends at the time and wasn't interested in learning to dive then. But I would like to try diving there sometime, even though I hear the visibility is not as good as Terrell or Athens, in general.
