OK, northeast conditions aren't always that great, but we did have relatively good vis on the GA Venturo Tug off Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey the weekend before last.

I had added a second Sola 1200 to my rig, pretty good for closeup portraits but it does tend to highlight particulate matter in the water when you shoot longer. Also, the GoPro tends to blow out highlights with this much light, I'll have to figure out how to make that better...

Great video! What type of filter are you using? What type of housing modifications have you made? What type of tray do you use? I have a 2012 Sola 1200 that I originally got as a dive light, but like my canister light better for that. So now I want to use my Sola as my GoPro video light so any info is appreciated.

Thanks! I'm not using a filter (although I did tweak the color balance a bit on some of the shots in iMovie). The housing is the Sartek underwater housing, to correct the focus - there are a few of these out there now, including one from GoPro and one from Backscatter.

I made the tray with some ultralight strobe arms. Here is a photo of the first version... since then I have added another arm and another Sola 1200, and replaced the adhesive mount with a tripod mount bolted to the center arm (more secure).

Nice piece. Your're already working aound the gopro weakness' by using relatively static shots and nice editing and transitions to get around the hot spots. I'm running into similar problems with "hot spots" I picked up a pair of the promate 500 lumen lights, couldn't beat the price as I'm a dealer, and married them to the mako transformer tray. I am going to have to add a few arms to move the lights out so I can get a better spread on the light. Some type off diffuser, similar to an omnibounce for a speedlight would be great to soften, spread and drop the power a tad for the closeups.Accessories - Promate/LED Scuba Diving Video Torch - Promate USA

Yup, I agree. Even at low power, the autoexposure seems to struggle with the hot spots...

How are you mounting the Sola? Mine started life as the 2012 goodman glove version and I'm not quite sure how to convert it to mount it on a arm.

I think that all the versions let you bolt on the simple mounting ball adapter... You probably need to buy it separately, but they are all the same basic unit... Check with B&H photo...

Nice video... What depth is that?

Thanks! 70 feet to the sand, with a good bit of relief. It was supposed to be our club's "Introduction to Northeast Diving" trip, but the weather forecast seemed to have scared all of the new divers off except one...

The guys at BackScatter sold me twin Sola 600's that I LOVE, and these are adapters to gobetween the Sola and the Line Lock or other arm type. All Adaptives ran about $15-20 all said and down.........but such a sweet light!
