Thanks, I have a beanie. I'm trying to understand if by "real HOOD", he mean't one that, say, covers the neck well.

I think he just meant that it's hard to find a dry hood in 3mm or 5mm. You can find bibbed hoods in those thicknesses, but they clearly aren't designed to seal to a dry suit neck seal.

I was going to cut a bibbed hood to fit, but, let's say, if you were able to get a compressed neoprene 5mm proper dry hood, would you (for use in fifty to sixty degree water)? Seasoft makes one sold at LP for $44.00.

I use a 12mm hood from Otter Bay Wetsuits in Monterey, CA with my drysuit. The average water temp has been around 54F, but the range can be from 45F-60F.

12MM:11: Egads, does it make you feel like a blockhead?

Nope, but when I put it on, it gets really quiet and my dives tend to be a lot longer since my head is so toasty. It costs $75, but well worth it. They also have 10mm hoods if you don't need the extra bulk. Check them out: http://www.otterbaysuits.com/

Quiet good. Thanks for the link.

I have a 7mm hood, and wear it all the time if the water is below 75F. I wish someone made a proper 3mm or 5mm hood.

I get cold out here on those long, deep dives. The helium makes it even worse. I have a great 3mm hood I bought from Xcel wetsuits. I believe they also make a 5mm.

That webpage could use some work. I had a hard time finding the hoods.

I found one at LP. It's a 5mm compressed neoprene dry hood made by SeaSoft.
