My friend and I are going to be in town to do an annual fishing trip at Oregon Inlet over the last few days of June. We plan to do the tri wrecks with one of the local guides. This will be our first shore dive. We are both fairly comfortable in the water and have dove both fresh and salt water on multiple occasions but we are still newbies
Has anyone dove there recently? Im guessing its full suit temps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shore diving in general in that area are on the cold side but the biggest problem is the vis. For the most part it's a 4 to 6ft. vis. but I have been in 15ft vis. and in no vis. at all so you just never know. I have done them for a very long time and every time is like a new dive site, thigs go under and things come up all the time.
There is now a bouy at the triangle (on Second St.) so you don't need to find the wreck site as we use to in the old days but shore dives in that area can be tricky at times specially exits. I know of a diver who lost his tank and BC several years back doing and exit, someone found his gear a week later 2 miles up the beach in very bad shape so read the surf before going in.

Best of luck, let me know if the big fish are in! LOL

Many thanks! Any reccommendations for a boat dive that is not too terribly technical or deep? I would like to incorporate at least one dive (hopefully more)every time we come down for off shore fishing. This is our sixth or seventh year and we are getting stoked to get down there. We do lots of lake diving up here so low vis is standard.(we just dont have currents or large predators in South Holston Lake)
Again Thanks!

Go talk to Bill at Outer Banks Dive Center, Nags Head, North Carolina, he runs some charters through the week, but has been having trouble with getting enough divers to go on weekends, runs a good op though. I usually run the deeper more technical stuff with him, but he does a lot of Recreational stuff also.
If you feel like a trip about an hour south to Cape Hatteras call Johnny & Amy at Outer Banks Diving for some really amazing Blue, warm water diving. Very similar in name , but not in any way associated with each other so don't book with 1 & show up at the other, which has happened before.
