Ok so i only did one dive and im not that bad. But when i first started i didint know how to equilize my ears. Im taking a course in the summer and i think it will be very fun. So all i want is some tips. Don't leave anything out. Thanks (For example always check your air, or always breathe... stuff like that.)

Welcome to the board. You'll learn all of what you "NEED" to know and a good bit of what you should know from your Open Water Class.

My only advice to you at this point is to find a good instructor, it will make all the difference in the world when it comes to your first real experience with SCUBA and how safe of a diver you are initially.

There are several threads on here about -how to choose a good instructor- and -what questions to ask potential instructors-

Don't just go with someone b/c of their agency, and don't just go with someone b/c they are the closest. Do a brief "interview" (for lack of a better word) of all the instructors in your area, post a thread in the Canada forum and ask for recommendations of instructors in your area, and go from there.

All instructors are NOT created equally. The rest, you'll learn in class and along the way.

Ok I found some threads you can read

And here are some forums that may be of interest to you:

Canada - ScubaBoard (I don't know where New Brunswick is located, but it's split up further by geography) You can post in the right sub-forum and find possible buddies and/or instructor recommendations

There will probably be some tips and good information for you in those forums.

I agree, the best advise that you can get is that of DivingPrincessE-
find a good Instructor, who will assist you through the system.

Don't go worrying about pre-class yet. Just take one class at a time,
everything will be explained to you as you need it.

Enjoy your classes and welcome to the wonderful world of scuba!

Hey Ryan,

I know this may sound weird, but if you can find a place with an indoor pool that is the best way to learn for the pre work in my opinion. I learned that way and when I got to the ocean everything was a bit easier.

The shop I learned in had an indoor heated pool with salt water. Made the transition alot easier.

HTH,

Mike

scuba diver ryan im really new to this but I did not have a problem equilizing my ears. But here are some tips for that. some squeeze thier nose and blow through thier nose. Me since that is easy for me I just make a slight yawn and slide my jaw slightly forward and they pop heck im doing it now lol. The worst in my opinion is the mask removal and breathing without a mask still practicing that still have to hold my nose to keep the water out.
