Howdy all,
I'm new to the San Diego area. I'm thinking of heading down to La Jolla Cove to get in some shore dives this weekend and was hoping to get some intel on diving there. Thanks in advance and I hope to meet some new dive buddies whp are equally crippled by scuba addiction. Safe diving and good vis to you all.

the cove really varies on conditions...your best bet is to get there VERY early...conditions tend to go worse and the morning goes on and parking is a real beast the later you show up...when the cove is good, its GREAT, tons of life lots of kelp. gear up at your car or the grass at the top of the stairs then walk down the steps and into the water.

Welcome to the 'board!!! Sorry I can't make it to SanDiego this weekend but there is a bunch of SDer's here, so someone should pop up.... you may check out Divebums - A San Diego Dive Website
for more local divers. Also, try to make it to our "wrinkle BBQ/dive days" to met up with more of us. Check out 2008 Schedule for monthly Wrinkles Beach Dives - The Dive Matrix Forums for the list for the rest of the year.. Laguna June 14th will be posted here next week. Enjoy!

The Beach report is (619) 221-8824, they have an estimate of visibility at the Cove, Right now it sounds good. If the cove gets ugly you can shift to La Jolla Shores, the viz is better, especially below the thermocline, although there is not as much to see, unless you are into the pretty colored slugs.

By report, if you swim out to Bouy 'A' at the cove before dropping down you have a good chance of seeing Black Sea Bass. There is a map at the stairs that shows the location. You can also keep your eye's put for Ralph, the 12+ lb lobster. I'd join you, but I'm racing in Marina Del Rey this weekend.
