I'll be in the Boston area for the summer and was wondering what sort of exposure protection I should be getting. I've done a few quarry dives in NY, but mostly tropical, so I'm timid to make the jump to a drysuit. But is it worth dropping alot of coin on wetsuit (Oneill, Henderson, etc) or should I stick with something budget like an Akona or Tilos?

Also whats the lobstering like in the summer... sounds like a blast! Thanks,

Brett

a 7 mill would probally be good
but for the price of a good wetsuit your gettin into thinkin about a dry suit.
traveling to RI will get you water thats warmer.. surface temps in the 70's in the summer its already in the 50's

I dive wet (7mm) when it warms up a little. Diesel is right, the water is much easier to take in RI than in the Glouster area when wet. But when the hot weather hits, those SI's will warm you up .

In the Summer wet is the only way to go. If you plan on being in Boston in the Summer I say save the money and dive wet. I am a huge wimp when it comes to cold water and I dive wet you warm up in minutes and stay warm with 7mm. I never thought about what quality suit I have but I am guessing middle of the road and that has been fine for 3 years now. It seems to have shrunk a bit around the middle so I may go up one size but it is still in great shape after oh I'd say 100 dives in it.

For diving wet a 7mm set that gives 14mm on your core is SOP. This may be a farmer John and jacket or a fullsuit with a hooded step-in shorty, my preference. This can be done for well under $500. While we had divers making single wet dives all winter in this gear 50F is commonly the cut-off point for repetetive we diving. YMMV

Dropping coin is not nearly as important as finding the perfect fit. I'm partial to the Bare brand and they have a slew of sizes.

$500 is the entry point for a neoprene drysuit (new) to that you will need to add some amount of accessories. If you have a good assortment of high performance outerwear some of that stuff may be usable as undergarments.
