I have to agree with Amphibious. You don't point any gun at anything you don't intend to shoot, and you don't shoot anything to wound, that's Hollywood. (A lot of divers unintentionally do it, but that's just called bad shots!)

Sorry Chad but I think Kevin is right in this. He was probably shooting a SS Commercial with a single band. Not as much power as a multiband. Hitting the dorsal fin it didn't penetrate, just bounced off and the fish took off.

This was done to keep from having to kill the shark.

Keeping your gun loaded is vital in spearfishing. Unloading it to just run off a shark isn't wise, IMO. (Especially if you only have one spear to begin with.)
