Just another chime in for ya...

Congrats on getting your cert and with such an obstacle as that instructor.. wow! I commend you.

I'm sure you'll find a ton of awesome information on this site and meet some great people here.

Welcome from the Pacific NW!

Congratulations! You've faced and defeated one of the biggest obstacles a new diver can face, a bad (to the point of being dangerous) instructor! Welcome to the realm of the certified diver! Hope you enjoy diving with your sweetie as much as I enjoy diving with mine! Just a hint, review all hand signals you can think of on the surface, including one for "that's cool!" because for some reason some men just don't seem to get the ones you make up underwater. When I dive with other women we seem to have no problem making up and understanding new signals underwater!

If you're ever in Ohio and need a dive buddy, let me know. Heck, we could do a scuba double-date!

Happy diving from the briar patch!

Uh hold on a minute where did this become a sex discrimination issue hehehhe.

But you are right and I have a perfect example. When we dove on the wreck known as the Cartanzer in St. Thomas, my wife was pointing frantically at the valve on the top of her tank, then to a hole in the ship. So I look in the hole and I see nothing. She again points to her 1st stage on her tank, and then at the hole. Again I am confused I look at the hole thinking something may have fallen off her tank into the hole???? So I look over the 1st stage all looks well, I check her air, all is well and I give up and shrug indicating I have no idea what she is trying to say....

At the surface of course I am intrigued to find out what she was thinking when she was doing this when she excitedly says did you see that octopus I was pointing at? She was trying to indicate an octopus by pointing to her 1st stage and it's hoses then at the whole, she thought the 1st stage looked like an octopus and that was part of the alternate called an "octopus"

Needless to say I never saw the octopus unfortunately, but as a momento to our lack of underwater communication, I bought her a nice pair of gold octopus earrings which she proudly wore home!

so you are right....we have to come up with more signals and learn them

isn't that sweet of you.... and you'll be surprised a few gestures can go a long way

hello there from another one of the canucks.

Glad you made it through your cert, as well as a bad experience didn't scare you away.

On another note... I keep hearing CAD...CAD...CAD all over the place... well, how about the FCD.
"Freezing" Cold Divers. It is official FCD is formed.

Glad to see you have become part of the best sport known to man/woman kind!!!

Welcome aboard hun!

I was shocked at what you went through to get your certification - but it makes it all the more special that you didnt give up girl!

Anyway, i think we need to start a womens club on here for all the women who have partners on the board - its slowly growing and growing!!! :mean:

From a little farther south!

I was appalled at at your Instructor from Hell story - Arghhhh - and I'm so pleased you got through it anyway.

Don't let the folks from up north confuse you - the only water that cold that you should let close to you should be the chaser! - AND -you can see throught that!

Welcome!

Welcome to the wonderful world of diving. It doesn't always have to be in such awful extremes as you had. I am very glad you have a positive attitude. Good luck and hope your ears are ok. Keep us posted.

Hey Ashley...

First welcome to the board. I am one of the "Canadians" who are glad that you are here.

Get that lad of yours under control and get the two of you up here (Umm - next spring/summer) and do some good ol wreck diving in.

Hope your ears are OK. I'd humbly suggest taking it real easy on returning diving - Ears are hard to replace.
